Dieter Berg is head of marine business development at Munich Re within Global Marine Partnership.

He joined Munich Re in 2001 as Head of Corporate Underwriting/Global Clients – Marine and Account Executive for the non-life business of a global client. In 2008, he became Senior Executive Manager for Global Clients/North America and Lloyd´s – Marine, Offshore Energy and P&I.

In 2001, Dieter Berg was appointed CEO of Munich Re Holding Company (UK) Ltd. (Watkins Syndicate at Lloyd’s) and Chairman of Munich Re Capital Ltd., London.

Following his studies of law at the University of Tübingen, Germany, and at the Université d’Aix-en-Provence/Marseille, France he worked in law firms in the USA and Germany. He received his admission as attorney-at-law in 1987.

In 1988, Dieter Berg joined Bavarian Reinsurance (Swiss Re Group) as a claims lawyer for Europe and the USA. He then worked in leading positions at Bavarian Re (Head of Liability, Accident and Motor; Divisional Head of Marine, Aviation, Space and Nuclear) for ten years.

He is on various committees of the German Insurance Association (GDV) and of the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI).

In 2014 he was elected President of IUMI.

Berg has published specialist articles on a variety of marine topics.

In 2014, 2015 and 2017 Berg was named as the most influential person in marine insurance by Lloyd´s List magazine.

Dieter Berg is married and has a daughter.
